Jayachandran and Yesudas met years before their Chennai days, to be precise during their school days, as teenagers. He hasn’t let go of music either, just that he focuses on bhajans,” said Jayachandran. My younger brother Krishnakumar now lives in Dubai. He left us soon leaving only his memories behind. “Times changed and my brother Sudhakaran left Chennai to move to Dubai and thereafter to Mumbai. In his unparalleled charm ‘Dasettan’ as we fondly called him, recreated the magic of ‘Joh wada kiya woh nibhaana padega’ and ‘Jo baat tujhmein hei’ and we were briefly joined by singer Udayabhanu making it the most unforgettable evening in my life,” he said.

“Once back home from the cinema I insisted that Yesudas sing the songs from the movie for me. The movie was a musical delight with songs from the Roshan-Rafi combine. “An unforgettable evening was when we went to watch the movie ‘Taj Mahal’ at what is today the Jayaprada Theatre at Chennai. Meeting at a time when Yesudas was still a struggling singer, Jayachandran had the opportunity to forge a very deep and personal bond with the singer years before they became colleagues and competitors in Malayalam and other film industries. “Yesudas would create that magic with the songs of Mohammad Rafi while my brother stuck to Kishore Kumar,” Jaychandran said. He along with his younger brother Krishnakumar were privy to the unforgettable musical evenings, that Jayachandran fondly calls ‘Mehfils’. Jayachandran encountered the rising star in south Indian musical scene at his brother’s place in Chennai during one of his summer vacations. The classic melody ‘Agaathaneelimayil apaarasoonyathayil’ was one song Yesudas always happily reserved for my brother at music fests and his baritone still rings in my ears like yesterday,” he said. “ Right from his initial days, Yesudas was a close friend to my singer brother, then working and living in Chennai and they used to perform together at musical events and festivals. “My memories of the legendary Yesudas are most intricately woven with the memories of my late brother Sudhakaran,” said his musical compatriot P Jayachandran.
